Sunburst Environment Programme

STEP partnered NUS in November 2013 to launch our Environment Programme to build “Green Champions” in Singapore. For this programme, 13 to 15 year olds from our secondary schools in Singapore spend a week learning from environment experts from the UK, USA, Indonesia and Singapore. Our youths were also provided with hands-on environmental experience through guided study visits to the Tropical Marine Science Institute (NUS) Labs on St. John’s Island, trekked up the Nature Trails of Bukit Timah Reserve, and experienced the rich biodiversity of Sungei Buloh. To cement their education and learning, the students were challenged to research and present a paper on the Environment. Research experts were readily available throughout the Programme to guide the students on writing and presenting good research papers. At the end of the programme, the 8 schools from Singapore were encouraged to spread the green message to their school and the wider community through STEP’s sponsorship of their school projects.

Programme Highlights:

  • Research and Presentation on Environment topics
  • Interactive talks/Small group discussions with Environment Experts
  • Study visits to Research Labs (TMSI) on St. John’s Island, Sungei Buloh and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
  • Compilation of an Environment E-Book
